[The keepers of the dead do not sleep. It is a luxury reserved only for their charges. But some point during her forced residency in Midgard, Leah has learned to envy those who sleep. The long hours of night pass slow when there is no assignment to carry forth. Only so much of her time can be spent watching Loki's window far away in Asgardia, envious of his nocturnal rest. It is a rest she so much desires, though such a gift would undermind her duties as handmaiden. Had she not been tasked, after all, to keep watch over Loki at all hours as to ensure fulfillment of his debt to her mistress?

A little sleep, she thinks sometimes, would be of no harm. It would make instead for an interesting escape, a chance to perhaps observe her subconcious at work. Restlessness does not often get the better of her. Neither do these fancies or whims. But tonight, one does. And for a full three minute, she closes her eyes and pretends to sleep.

When her eyes open, the surroundings are not what she expects. She sits no longer on a rock outside the entrance to her dirty great hole in the ground. There is no Thori grumbling in the distance, threatening to cock his leg (tonight on the great world tree). The sky is no longer black but for the pinprick of light from stars and moons or the faint glow of Asgardia a mile away.
She is in what she recognizes as a Midgardian apartment, sitting on a twin-sized bed with an unfamiliar journal opened in front of her. Sunlight streams in from an open window and the chilly breeze of winter only faintly tickles her skin. Her arms are bare, a fact that perhaps catches Leah most by surprise. She only owns one dress, a long gown of dark green. This simple white shift is not her dress.

There is another glance down at the journal, at the words appearing on it as if it were the Stark phone Loki so foolishly brought her. Her hands ball into fists as she raises them level with her chest and sparks of neon green magic (magic that looks very much like lightning to the unfamiliar) flicker both from hands and eyes.

Leah of Hel is not amused.]

Loki Laufeyson! [The name is yelled even though she suspects the young god of mischief to be nearby, observing for himself the mischief, it seems, that he has just concluded. The hows of her sudden transport to Broxton will be puzzled later. For now, she knows no greater desire than to flush out the boy and pummel him fiercely.] Cease this joke of practical nature right now and show yourself!

[Magic is, perhaps, the only familiar in such an unfamiliar environment. If the voices in the journal are to be believed, this is not a joke of practical nature. This is an abduction.

And the man who just appeared in this room might very well be her abductor.]

I am Leah of Hel. [Her voice is stiff and proper as she stands from the bed. Her eyes glow a brighter green and balls of green electricity form in her hands. She will not allow herself to be taken as week. She will be making the demands here, as ought to be her right as handmaiden to Hela.

A split second after the magical power forms in her hands, she hurls it in the direction of the man.] And I demand my release.

[Oho, finally someone else from the Nine Realms. Well, he has no idea who Leah of Hel is off the top of his head, but he certainly recognizes what she is doing, and is ready for it.

Outwardly calm, he catches the ball of power in his own hands and idly spins it.]

A very fetching demand you make, and most emphatic as well. However, it is not in my power to give that particular gift. [He pointedly twitches one wing, eyebrow going up.] Would that it were, since I rather think clever young ladies should be rewarded.

[He grounds out the power, dissipating the energy between his hands.] Now, back to my original question. I am Loki of Asgard. What business has a denizen of Hel to shriek my name in the most insulting manner possible? I do hope you have a good answer for that, or my grumpiness may overwhelm how charmed I currently feel.

[She watches as he catches the magic and spins it idly, hiding the dismay she feels behind a stony mask. That she is still a fledging in her own sorcery is true, however much she hides the fact. Around Loki, to do so is quite simple.

Around this man, it appears to be not as simple. There is danger radiating from this Asgardian. Danger and power. She cannot help but admire that just a little.

Until a name is given.] You cannot be Loki of Asgard. He is incapable of any magic. ...and is also an idiot.

[Ah, and suddenly it all makes sense.]

And is about this tall? [He holds his hand an appropriate distance above the floor.] The description you give is quite recognizable. [Because yes, in Loki's estimation, his younger self is also a fool.]

He is around here as well, so I'm sure you'll encounter him shortly. It's a bit... complicated. Different universes, you see. Conversations with him have made it clear that I come from a rather different Asgard. [He rests one shoulder against the wall, lounging as is his habit.] And given your description, I think it obvious that I am a rather different Loki.

[He tilts his head.] How far along are you in your studies? [And there is a sharpness in his smile that seems to promise he will know if she lies.]

[She tilts her head, eyeing the short distance between the floor and this man's hand. The height is about right and there is no disagreement towards Loki's foolishness. He is, at the very least, aware of the boy she knows as Loki Laufeyson.

But it is the rest of his claims that are more difficult to swallow. Hela had warned her of such possibilities. But to meet a Loki who appears almost intelligent must be an impossibility.

And yet...]

Far along enough to be tasked with duties my mistress will entrust to no else.

And who is your mistress, Leah of Hel? [He cocks his head slightly.] Hela herself?

[A nod.]

I would serve no other.

[He smiles. It never hurts to seek potential allies with those from the Nine Realms who are much less annoying than his younger self.] It is my honor to make your acquaintance, then.

[She tilts her head again, staring at him for some time. That she could say the same does not come easy. If he truly is Loki Laufeyson, albeit a Loki from another another dimension, there is little honor to making his acquaintance.

So Leah settles on a deep nod instead.]

[One eyebrow goes up slightly, his expression becoming a bit colder. He doesn't miss the snub. Right. This is the problem with people from the Nine Realms.

Thanks for reminding him of that particular sting.]

And what precisely has the short and annoying Loki done to get on your bad side, I wonder?

The majority of prisoners in this place are mortals, by the by. It is horrendously boring unless you've a talent for keeping yourself amused.

Existed.

[The word is said in utter deadpan. Insulting Loki has been one of the few joys Leah has found since exile to Midgard. It comes naturally now, even in the young god's absence.]

[Loki finds this very, genuinely amusing, and laughs, still leaning against the wall.]

It shan't get any better here, in that case. My condolences, lady.

[Though she works to keep up the solemn expression, a hint of amusement crosses her features when he laughs. It is very unlike Loki's laugh; the sound does not grate at her ears.]

Are you truly Loki Laufeyson?

[A slight spasm of disgust hits his features, smoothed away in an instant.] I am Loki of Asgard. I claim nor want no father.

[He raises an eyebrow, challenging her to disagree with him on this.]

[The response is intriguing. As far as Leah is aware, the Loki she knows holds no qualms with his parentage. Another difference then, if this man is truly a Loki from another world.

But she will not disagree with his desire.]

And I have none I know of, Loki of Asgard. I will not call you by that name again.

[He inclines his head.] Lucky you.

An easy way to call us apart, if nothing else. [He idly runs his fingers along the wall.]

What sorts of tasks do you do for the Lady Hela? Though of course, I do not mean to pry into secret matters. But I find my curiosity roused, having had magic flung at my head.

As her handmaiden, I do whatever Hela wishes of me.

[Her life is not her own. It has never been and never will be. But she accepts that fact. Just as she accepts that Hela would want news of this other Loki. To befriend him would quite likely be yet another task.

How she misses Hel.]

At the moment, it is to ensure your younger self fulfills his promise to my mistress.

What a broad job description.

Oh, what promise might that be? [Oh, but that sounds amusing. He's done a few tricks of that sort before, but he has no faith in his younger self. For anything really.]

[Broad, perhaps, but apt.]

That I cannot say. The debt is a matter between Hela and Loki Laufeyson. You, as you have distinguished, are not he.

[He laughs and shrugs, his look really just saying well, can't blame a guy for trying.]

He hasn't mentioned anything of Hel, but I would not expect that either. [They really loathe each other.]

But how circumspect of you, either way. [He finds he rather likes this.] What are you allowed to speak of?

What is it you wish me to speak of?

[Oho.

He grins.]

[She smiles at that.]

A topic I am both free to speak of and enjoy.

[Is that... a fellow nerd he smells?]

Oh, excellent. 'Tis my favorite subject.

[Perhaps. If she knew what the word meant.

But, as it is, his response gets yet another smile.]

Prior to my current assignment, I had been working to refine my skills in constructing portals.
